A MyHyperhidrosisTeam Member asked a question 💭

What do I have to say to my doctor for them to take me seriously about my excessive sweating!! I want to try oxy or benzo or whatever but what do I need to do to get it? I’ve tried prescription deodorant, my skin is to sensitive for that.

Please help... I’m desperate like you

Have you thought about taking a video of yourself on your phone if it has that capability, then showing it to your doc in your next visit? That’s what I just did with some help from my daughter. It was not super long, just started the recording as I filled the sink with dishes. Within a minute or less the sweat came pouring off my face and head! I plan to do one more video, maybe folding clothes... he will be able to see firsthand...well almost, how easily the sweating starts and how uncontrollable it is! You could even do three or four short clips. If the doc doesn’t believe you have an issue after that...maybe time to find a new doc!!! LOL!

If you have any Thyrhoid issues, an 🇦🇬Endocrinologist familiar with HH is also a consideration. I’ve had Pitituary Admoma (Tumor) 20 years ago & am being referred to Endocrinologist as HH can also be caused by Hormonal Issues.

Personally, I am writing a cheat sheet to take w/me. All my
relevant health history, How severely the HH is affecting my life. Include issues with Depression, anxiety, how it affects your work, your personal life, etc. Let them KNOW you are anxious to find the cause, not just apply a band aid to the problem.
I am new to this- I am not familiar w/meds, good or bad. Do your research before you go in.
I DO NOT Know for fact, but I have heard that Benzos(?) like an anti anxiety med can cause profuse sweating. I hope not, that has been a maintenance med of mine for 15 years. I’ve heard Beta Blockers are also used, again already a maintenance med. If they are used for HH, they don’t do diddly squat for me. You need to research before you go in just asking for Rx...... There is a LOT of Blood & Urine Labs that have to be completed before they start a treatment. Best of Luck!

Yes, comes with sudden drenching capability... one moment I am fime, two seconds later, my hair is dripping wet and stringy, hangimg in my face, sticking to my drenched face...hate it, it is so embarrassing...I make noise about menopause and hot flashes but people step away uncomfortable, embarrassed for my very obvious and super visible distress. Look at me like I might be contagious...lol
